The post of Maintenance Operative is to work to with the Maintenance Team with all general maintenance tasks and basic repairs including household electrical, plumbing, joinery, plastering, painting, decorating and tiling. You will provide effective and efficient service to ensure compliance with all statutory legislative requirements, industry guidelines and policy. You will carry out routine planned work and preventative maintenance and repair tasks. There may be a requirement for you to work out with your normal working hours and you will travel to other establishments and areas.
Role Accountabilities & Key Activities
- Undertake maintenance work as and when required across Stepdown Community Services
- Undertake route work such as minor repair tasks on electrical, plumbing and building equipment and joinery work
- Supported by the Maintenance Team, you will carry out allocated tasks given to you by the House manager who has additional responsibility for maintenance and Health and Safety and Head of Service
- Maintain a safe and healthy working environment and report any dangers and deficiencies
- Carry out external grounds maintenance throughout the year including winter grounds maintenance and gritting when you may be asked to work out with your normal working hours
- You will be trained to operate grounds maintenance plant and equipment, maintaining stock levels as required
- Assist with the escorting of specialist external contractors when required
- Knowledge of tool/equipment storage and maintenance
- Ability to carry out a risk assessment on planned works
- Porterage skills including moving equipment and furniture

- On a day-to-day basis, the post holder will interact with all staff and young people

| Hours of Work | 37 hours per week – weekends may be required. |
| Probationary Period | All appointments are subject to a 6 month probationary periods, failure to complete your probationary period will result in your contact of employment being terminated, the probationary period may be extended to 12 months if required |
